Peace Education & Non-Violent Communication

Course Overview

    In this course educators will learn how to instill responsibility, caring and compassion in the classroom and how cultivating individual interests and talents will eliminate competition and violence in the classroom and school community. In this course educators will gain an understanding of the role of communication in peace through the NVC model by Marshall Rosenberg. This course contains a curriculum development component and manuals.                                           

 

 

Course Objectives

•    Examine how to make life choices that demonstrate respect for the environment, other species, and all people.
•    Discuss the concepts of peace and peace education.
•    Explore ways to begin implementing peace education in schools and community. Address sensitive issues in peace education, key concepts and topics, important cultural factors, and barriers facing those who teach peace.
•    Look at how educators can prevent destructive conflict and instill creative conflict and cooperation in schools and in the world.
•    Study non-violent communication skills
