ICEE Courses
Children & Nature

Course Overview

This course offers educators a deeper understanding of the knowledge of environmental education and how it relates to development and intelligence. This course contains a curriculum development component and manuals. This course will explore how children benefit from a relationship to nature and how educators can implement environmental curriculum into the classroom for all areas of study.

Course Objectives

•    Investigate how a lack of connection to nature can cause problems for children and how integrating an environmental education curriculum can improve problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
•    Study how to cultivate the natural ability in children to understand and care for nature.
•    Connect curriculum and place-based education in the classroom.
•    Address the recent condition of children and their relationship to nature in the context of current cultural beliefs and systems.

Nature often holds up a mirror so we can see more clearly the ongoing processes of growth, renewal, and transformation in our lives.
